2019 District/Summer Baseball

Summer Baseball –

It is hard to believe that our spring season is almost over!!!  Even with all this rain for most players our season will be wrapping up in the next few weeks.  In case you didn’t know EGGLL offers three different opportunities to continue baseball season into the summer.  Players are eligible to play in multiple programs.

District Baseball (All-Stars)

District Baseball is the most competitive teams that EGGLL offers each season.  The goal is to put together the most competitive tams possible to compete in the District and Statewide Little League Tournament.  These teams start practicing as soon as the season ends and will keep playing until eliminated from the District Tournament.  Teams typically practice or play games 5-6 days per week during this period.  Games typically start the last week in June and continue through the early part of July.  It is expected that players attend all team activities during this period.

We encourage all eligible Granby and East Granby players to try out for these teams, but please understand that players will be selected to join the teams based on regular season play, coaches’ feedback, and the assessments at tryouts.  This is a wonderful opportunity for players to continue their growth in a highly competitive environment.  The goal for these teams is to compete at the highest level possible.  Playing time will follow Little League Baseball tournament standard and not driven by local regular season rules.

10/11/12 Team Eligibility – The player needs to be baseball league age 10, 11 or 12, and must be playing at the Majors level in the Spring regular season.  The player must have played 60% of his team’s regular season games. For example: if the team played 15 games (standing, non-standing and playoffs) then the player needs to have played in 9 games. The player must be a Granby or East Granby resident as of 2/1/18 or attend a school in Granby or East Granby.

9/10/11 Team Eligibility –The player needs to be baseball league age 9, 10 or 11, and must be playing at the AAA or Majors level in the Spring regular season.  The player must have played 60% of his team’s regular season games. For example: if the team played 15 games (standing, non-standing and playoffs) then the player needs to have played in 12 games. The player must be a Granby or East Granby resident as of 2/1/18 or attend a school in Granby or East Granby.

8/9/10 Team Eligibility – The player needs to be baseball league age 8, 9 or 10, and may be playing at the AA, AAA or Majors levels in the Spring regular season.  The player must have played 60% of his team’s regular season games. For example: if the team played 15 games (standing, non-standing and playoffs) then the player needs to have played in 9 games. The player must be a Granby or East Granby resident as of 2/1/18 or attend a school in Granby or East Granby.

Northern Hartford County U9 Tournament

The Northern Hartford County U9 Tournament is a new opportunity that we are trying out this season.  This tournament represents a good opportunity for our younger players to get their first experience of competitive baseball with other towns.  The tournament will occur in Simsbury between June 17th and July 1st.  Teams are guaranteed four games in a rules format that is similar to our AA rulebook. Practice will be 3-4 times per week and will start after the season and continue until the tournament is complete.  It is expected that players attend all team activities during this period.

We encourage all eligible Granby and East Granby players to try out for these teams, but please understand that players will be selected to join the teams based on regular season play, coaches’ feedback, and the assessments at tryouts.  This is a wonderful chance for players to continue their growth in a highly competitive environment.  Playing time will follow tournament rules of continuous batting order and minimum playing time in the field.

U9 Eligibility –The player needs to be baseball league age 7, 8, or 9, and must be playing at the AA or AAA level in the Spring regular season.

Games are usually played Mondays through Thursday, with approximately two games a week scheduled over a six week period from the beginning of July until the first week in August. Rosters are built with the expectations that players will miss some games due to summer vacations, etc.

Summer Baseball is open to all players league age 7 and above are ready and intend to play Majors/Minors baseball next spring.  Please note that final placement of all players will be conducted based on skill level as determined by discussions with coaches.  Players who played Farm baseball in the Spring, may need to be evaluated by coaches in order to determine if they are ready and safe to play at the AA level.

Registration for this Program opens on Saturday June 1st and carries a $75 registration fee.  Late fees start on July 1st.  Please register on our website.  Click on “Summer Registration”
